The review

With the orange open cupboards arranged in a semi-circle on the stage (a footy change room from the main season show “W”), with a stove and two metal trolleys with essential equipment for speedy baking, the space is widening up with vertical tubes, lightened so the back of the stage looks like a deep portal.

Alfred Kouris @alfredkouris (recently as a cast of the outstanding "Three Sisters" on the very stage) & Harry Stacey @starryhacey literally are there to bake a cake. So it is clear what will be done. The great treat is - how.

Unleashed, belly-pain funny performance with a grand-entrance a la Master Chef, slight touch on circus - one funny clown, one sad, mixed with a soap opera, a Women's Weekly style story, and karaoke (apologies to the ears of my beautifully singing neighbours).

It is unusual, it is engaging, it is smartly improvised when a moment asks for it. It smells vanilla, and you get to play on your phone and get a piece of cake when it is done.

It is an unconstrained theatre work soaked in contagious joy - to entertain, to laugh, to touch soft soul strings, and just to be there to relish.

It is dancing (oh, those sync moves - sharp and classy!) at the edge of being a little bit too much, and that makes it so fresh and hot.

If you need a thing to do at 9pm, but this week only - pick this one, right now.
